We loved the skateboarding slice of pizza shirt.

Welcome to the first venture into our new weekly updates for each Montessori environment at DVMS. As we noted in our April Parent Newsletter, we will be sharing glimpses into each environment and letting you know of important news for each room through these postings. You will still receive the monthly Parent Newsletter on the first of each month, but it will contain only school-wide event and information details.

Our hope is that this new format will reduce the amount of information in the monthly newsletter to make it easier to digest, while also providing more regular and more detailed looks into each Montessori environment at DVMS. We recommend you bookmark this page so you can easily check in whenever you like.

One of the best things in Casa North this week was the skateboarding slice of pizza shirt. So cool he asked Dylan to sketch it for him.

Other than cool shirts, the Casa North crew kept busy on a number of fronts, as you can see below. A number of things on the go here: the Stamp Game is a math material that is used to work with all four mathematics operations and helps the child begin to transition from the concrete to the abstract; chalk boards are used for a number of activities and are a great way for children to practice forming letters, numbers, and for other work; surveying other students allows for socialization and the opportunity learn how to collect, organize, and work with data.

Stamp Game math material, chalkboard for writing practice, and a survey.

One of the great things we see in Casa North regularly is the way that Montessori allows time for children to spend a bit of time together chatting in between activities; social development is just as important as cognitive development. When it is a regular part of the classroom, the children are used to it and learn to maintain their focus on the task at hand while others nearby take a moment to chat.

Some socialization in between activities while focus remains on the Decanomial Square.

Remember, there is no school Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, due to Easter.

Finally, if you haven’t already done so, please plan to attend our Tuesday, April 22, event featuring Dr. Jean Clinton. Click here for details and to register.
