Last week we showed you the Lower Elementary student above working on a draft version of the promotional poster for his bake sale to help raise money for the Peregrine Foundation, who visited us a couple of weeks ago. As you can see, the bake sale went off without a hitch and to great success. From initial idea through all the steps to completion, allowing them to pursue their interests gives Montessori kids opportunities for great experiences.
Another great experience in Lower South these days is growing crystals. The work that goes into this: researching to find out how to do it, gathering materials and supplies, and following specific instructions to complete the task is both fun and great practice for completing their own inquiries later on.
On Earth Day, all of the Lower Elementary children got outside and helped to clean up the local environment. While most stayed at the school to clean up our grounds, Noeleen brought the older kids to our neighbour’s property, Blackadar Continuing Care, to help clean up the winter’s debris there. we have a great relationship with Blackadar at both the elementary levels at DVMS and with the adolescents at Strata Montessori.
Finally, please enjoy the video above of some of the Lower Elementary kids performing a song they wrote for Earth Day about the importance of water.
