You will notice that starting with this one, the update posts are being scaled back. Our goal was to provide a more detailed glimpse into the DVMS Montessori environments to see what your children are up to, learn a little bit more about Montessori materials, how they’re used, and their purpose, and to create a collection of posts that can be combined to offer the general public an idea of what Montessori is and how it works.

Craft work in Montessori elementary is a messy way to explore creativity and imagination.

The Lower Elementary environments at DVMS have a series of experiments students can choose from to learn about specific things, and be introduced to the scientific method that they will work with more in Upper Elementary.

Got any questions about Niagara Falls? We now have an in-house expert. Inquiry-based projects area big part of Montessori elementary.

Working with Jodi and the Montessori Decimal Board, a material used to explore the decimal system. This is a big step for Lower Elementary students as they start to learn about tenths, hundredths, thousandths, and millionths.

Lots of work with Montessori Puzzle Maps, as well as individual exploration, brings Lower Elementary students to the point where they can make their own maps.

Montessori uses real, natural materials, such as glass containers and ceramic dishes, at all levels so that natural consequences are immediately evident if you drop something. (And also hence the trip and MATERIAL fee!)

Lower North has a student visiting from England for three weeks. He’s wasted no time trying to figure out some Montessori Chequerboard multiplication work with new friends.
On Tuesday, April 14, three students from Lower Elementary South will be hosting a bake sale, for Lower Elementary students only, to benefit the SPCA, during their lunch hour. They will be baking cupcakes, banana bread, cookies, and rice crispy squares. Items will be 50 cents each.
