Campout/Sleepover Information

  • Casa Graduation Sleepover:

Children graduating from the Casa program will be spending the night at DVMS on Friday, June 8, camping in the gym. Look for a letter that was sent home with your child this week (or ask your child’s Casa guide on Monday if the letter went the way of magical mystery missing things). A few pertinent details:

  • Please resist the temptation to pop in after school on Friday for last minute hugs and kisses as this can lead to unhappy children.
  • Pick up is at 9:00 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning, outside if weather is permitting.
  • Please do not bring flashlights or any electronics.

  • Lower Camp Out Information:

Two pieces of paper came home with your Lower Elementary child last week — a packing list and an information form (please return the form asap if you haven’t already done so).

  • Students will depart for Camp Nokomis from DVMS on Thursday, June 7, by school bus, at 9:00 a.m. (please arrive at DVMS no later than 8:30).
  • They will return to DVMS in time for regular dismissal on Friday, June 8. We’ll let you know if they will be arriving at DVMS earlier than 3:45 — they’re usually ready for a bath and an early night.
Food:
  • In addition to the packing list emailed to you last week, students will NOT require a bagged lunch for the first day.  All other meals/snacks will be provided at camp.
  • Camp Nokomis makes provisions for vegetarian diets.  If your child has other food concerns that have not yet been addressed, please send us a note with your concerns.
  • Please do not send any additional food, snacks, or treats as it is strictly prohibited in the cabins because it attracts unwelcome visitors.
Medications:
  • If your child requires an Epi-pen, please be prepared for them to wear it on their person at all times while at camp.
  • If your child will require medication while away, please contact the office to fill out a medication form prior to departure day.

Other things to bring, or not:

  • Please keep an eye on the weather. If it looks like it is going to rain, children are asked to bring a board game (not battery operated) to play with friends.
  • No treats, money, food, electronic devices, or toys please!

  • Upper Camp Out Information:

Our annual trip to camp is upon us and we have a few notes for parents to help in preparation for the trip.

  • Camp: Rocky Ridge Ranch in Milton, Ontario
  • Depart by bus from DVMS on Wednesday, June 13.
  • Return to DVMS by bus, ready for pickup on Friday, June 15.
  • We’ll have specific times for you next week.

Food:

  • In addition to the packing list emailed to you this week, students will require a bagged lunch for the first day.  All other meals/snacks will be provided at camp.
  • Rocky Ridge Camp makes provisions for vegetarian diets.  If your child has other food concerns that have not yet been addressed, please send us a note with your concerns.
  • Please do not send any additional food, snacks, or treats as it is strictly prohibited in the cabins because it attracts unwelcome visitors.

  • If your child requires an Epi-pen, please be prepared for them to wear it on their person at all times while at camp.
  • If your child will require medication while away, please contact the office to fill out a medication form prior to departure day.

Elementary Activities

  • Lower Elementary Activities:

Lower Elementary students have completed their supplemental physical education activities for the year.

  • Upper Elementary Friday Tennis:

Upper Elementary students conclude tennis at the Dundas Tennis Club, located in Dundas’s Driving Park, on Friday, June 8. If your child has a tennis racket, please have them bring it; if not, DVMS will supply rackets. Tennis-playin’-appropriate clothing and shoes, and their water bottles, are also required.

  • Upper Elementary West (Kathleen/Michael) will play tennis on Friday mornings. Please drop your Upper West child off at Driving Park between 8:30-9:00 on tennis days. They will walk back to DVMS for lunch.
  • Upper Elementary East (Terrence/Catherine) will play tennis on Friday afternoons. They will have an early lunch and walk to Driving Park for 1:00. If you would like to pick your child up from Driving Park, please be there no later than 3:15. Terrence or Catherine will depart Driving Park at 3:15 with the remaining students to walk back to DVMS for dismissal at 3:45.

TENNIS DAY NOTES:

  • A number of Upper Elementary children enjoy riding their bikes to and from tennis. Children that choose to do so, with your approval and consent, travel in an unsupervised group. If your child would like to bike ride, please email us at admin@dvms.ca to indicate your consent.
  • Some children are also given permission to dismiss themselves from Driving Park in order to walk home. If you would like your child to walk home from the park, please indicate your consent for them to do so via email to admin@dvms.ca

Information and Reminders

  • Movin’ on Up:

Starting Monday, June 4, children moving up to a new Montessori level at DVMS next year will begin visiting classrooms at their new level during the morning work cycle. The classrooms they visit are not necessarily the classrooms they will be placed in next year (placements will be completed over the summer).

Year 6 Upper Elementary Families: You will have received an email this past week about your children’s visits to Strata, including which group your child is in for canoeing.

  • Year 6 DVMS elementary students will be hosted at Strata during the mornings of June 4, 5, and 6.
  • Each of these days, your year 6 student should be dropped off at Strata by 8:30.
  • They will be split into two groups; Group A will be canoeing on June 4 with Justin Metz and Colin Fox. On this day only, Group A participants are required to bring a packed lunch.
  • On June 5 all students will spend the morning and lunch at Strata.
  • Group B will be canoeing on June 6, again with Justin and Colin. On this day only, Group B participants are required to bring a packed lunch.
  • We will shuttle the students back to DVMS for their regular afternoon activities.
  • Students should bring indoor shoes, a water bottle, something to write on and with, as well as weather appropriate outer wear, especially on the day they will be out on the water: sunscreen, hats, water shoes, rain coats, etc. Whatever the weather, please help them to remember to dress or pack appropriately.

  • DVMS Apparel Orders:

Online ordering of DVMS apparel will be open on Monday, June 4. We will send the link out once the store is open, and items you purchase will be shipped to your home. (This is a good time to get new t-shirts if kids have outgrown them; they’ll need them for field trips and sporting events, etc. next year).

  • Strata Art Show Cafe:

  • Summer Casa Camp:

Registration for DVMS Casa Summer Camp is now available.

DVMS Casa Summer Camp is held on the grounds of Dundas Valley Montessori School. Staffed by DVMS Montessori trained staff and using our beautiful playground, gym, and multi-purpose room, each week will follow a theme with games, crafts, activities, and community outings. On Fridays we will have a barbecue lunch to end a week of fun and adventure. Our Summer Camp welcomes DVMS students and other children ages 4-6 (or have completed their first year of Casa as DVMS), meeting their developmental needs in a safe, nurturing environment.

  • DVSA Camp for Last Week of June:

Dundas Valley School of Art (DVSA) will once again be hosting an art camp for DVMS students ages 4+ (all the way up to our 12-year-old Upper Elementary students) for the week of June 25-29. This is the week that classes at DVMS are over, but the staff is still in finishing up some year-end tasks. See the DVSA poster below for more info. To register for DVSA art camp, please click here to visit the DVSA website  (under the “Choose Your Program” dropdown menu, select “Children & Teens” and scroll down to the “Head StART! A Montessori Program” selection options; there is a morning and afternoon session; sign up for both for full days).

The best part of street theatre is CHARACTERS! Gorgeous acrobats and aerialists, a suave gentleman and a rakish Scot, a strongman straight out of the 1920s and adorable couples in love with busking and each other. We welcome performers from across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands and Israel. Our local line-up of roving performers and musicians is stronger than ever, with visual surprises and toe-tapping music around every corner. Flying high are the beautiful ladies of Cirqa Brava, the aerial antics of The Lumberjack Show, and Wacky Chad’s amazing pogo flips! Masters of manipulation Thelmo Parole, Mat Ricardo and Magic Mark entice audiences with smooth moves and wicked humor… Strongman Mighty Mike will dazzle you with physical feats testing the limits of human achievement… And real-life couples Duo Looky and The Street Circus show mix timing, precision, and perfect teamwork to perform brilliant and hilarious stunts!

New this year is our FAMILY PITCH! Located at Pitch #5, this stage features all family-friendly acts including Storyteller Brad Woods, and is located next to the kids’ activity area with games, juggling, hula-hooping and just hanging around.

We’re always thrilled to present Hamilton-area musicians and roving performers. Watch the streets for The Vaudevillian’s washboard ragtime, singer-songwriters, and young jugglers, magicians and violinists. Keep an eye out for roving vines!

We’re proud to bring full-time artists with incredible skills, outrageous comedy, and impeccable credentials to the Dundas Buskerfest. Our festival—your festival!—actively seeks performers who represent our diverse audience. Do you know an act—local, regional or international—you’d love to see here?
